Watch as we Catch 3 Big Bass 6-8 pounds, Bass Fishing Pomme de Terre,

I decided to make a highlight from many of the big bass I’ve caught on Pomme de Terre lake in southwest Missouri. Many people believe that all you can catch on Pomme are crappie and muskie! Though I’ve caught a few of both, I’m a life long hunter of big bass! This video highlights 3 or 4 of the biggest bass I’ve caught on Pomme de Terre in the past 2 years. There is some footage of catching bass either during the USA Bassin Divisional and Regional tournaments and pre fishing for them or fishing TriCounty Bass Club out of St Roberts! This video includes a 6.5+ lbr, a 7.2 lbr and a near 8 lbr caught on this ‘muskie’ lake in southwest Missouri!

Squarebill Crankbaits For Spring Bass Fishing!

Big bass and shallow water! The pre-spawn is the perfect recipe for squarebill fishing! As the big ones move up a lot of the traditional patterns fade away in favor of high-speed reaction baits. The square bill is a perfect candidate for this style of fishing and today we’re making it so easy that anyone can fish them effectively.

There are only a couple of considerations that you as the angler need to make when selecting a square bill. Pay attention to sound (or lack of sound), size, and diving depth. Once you’ve made those simple selections all that’s left to do is cover water in search of those big pre-spawn bass.
We keep color selection very simple. Ideally you’ll want to fit baits into 4 categories. Craw (red), Ghost (see-through), Reflective (Chrome or scale pattern), and white. If you have baits in these 4 categories you’re prepared for 99% of the conditions you can face on the water.

USA BASSIN Regionals at Pomme de Terre lake, October 21st Randy Yancey

My partner Alan Yancey (my brother) and I decided to fish the USA Bassin Regional tournament at Pomme de Terre this weekend (October 21st). We pre fished a little Friday afternoon (noon to 530) and caught only 7 fish. Totals 5 Keepers, but nothing over 2 lbs, a dink 6 incher and a 22 inch 4-5 pound walleye. (it was ‘lucky’, as we already had supper plans so released it. lol)

It was windy, and a high sky pre frontal day as Saturday’s weather was predicted to be cooler, with mostly high skies and wind. Water clarity from 1.5 to 2.0 feet, and the lake was down about a foot since I last fished it in September.

We started the day fishing main lake points, and had 3 smallish keepers in the box by 7:45 am. So, we left the Decker arm area, and headed southwest down the west arm of the lake, thinking we’d go way south of Lightfoot ramp, where I’d caught a decent 2 lbr the day before. We continued to fish the only ‘pattern’ we found which produced fish, fishing main and secondary wind blown points, especially the ‘down wind’ sides.!

final score, Randy 3 keepers, probably 4.5 lbs of the 7.60 total. Alan, had 3 keepers also! Only 2 non-keepers caught total. I did catch our biggest fish, within 20 minutes of weigh in. A 2.37 lb long but skinny largemouth caught on a an old favorite lure of mine. a 3/8 oz, chart/white lipless crankbait I bought for 2.77 at the BPS outlet store in Springfield, Caught many 3,4,5+ pound largemouth on this lure but had quit throwing it back in 2016. I told Alan, when I tied it on at about 2:30 pm, that I’d never failed to catch a keeper on this, so I might as well throw it. Wham, third cast, and that last and biggest keeper was in the boat. Pulled up trolling motor and got back to Hermitage ramp at 253 pm.

Out of 28 boats there were 3 boats that blanked, 4 boats with 1 fish totals, 2 had 2-3 fish and we were one of about 15 teams that weighed in a limit.
Finished 18th with 7.60 lbs but 1 2.4 lb additional fish would have landed us in 3rd over-all. So, 19 of top 20 boats caught between 7 and 9.9 lbs. As a whole, lots of limits but most were very small fish for fall fishing on Pomme de Terre lake.

Come fish with us at Table Rock lake in our USA Bassin Table Rock Fall Division that I’m the director for. Begins November 11th.and continues almost every weekend, with the last one at Cape Fair, on December 16th!
Go to this link to check out details of the ‘Table Rock Fall division of USA Bassin National Tournament Trail!

Spring Spinnerbait Fishing Tips and Tricks From Shallow To Deep

Spring is your best shot of the year to catch a GIANT bass on a spinnerbait! Ponds, creeks, lakes, reservoirs, it doesn’t matter… bass are moving shallow, they’re getting in the cover, and they’re susceptible to the flash and movement of a well-placed spinnerbait.

If you could only own one spinnerbait in one color to have your best shot at catching fish on ANY lake, anywhere in the country, I would choose this one…
Revenge Deep Runner, Double Nickel Blades, Blue Shad Color, 1/2 oz Size:

As you branch out and adapt to changing conditions you will need more baits in more colors and blade combinations. 1/2 ounce is by far the most universal spinnerbait. If there is ever a doubt, go 1/2 oz. Its heavy enough to pair with any trailer and light enough to still be fished shallow if speed is adjusted.
If you intend to focus shallow all the time 3/8 is your best size but be prepared to use a 3 1/2 to 4″ swimbait trailer instead of a 4-5″ swimbait trailer.
On the other hand if you intend to fish deep (Greater than 15 feet), or in current, or if you intent to burn the bait, 3/4 ounce is the best size for you. The beauty of 3/4 is that it can be burned mid range or slow rolled as deep as 30-40 feet.
The only other consideration is night fishing. We really didn’t talk about night fishing in this video but if you intend to fish primarily at night I recommend a larger hook (Revenge Heavy Duty, see below) and sizes 3/4 or 1 1/4 oz so that you are no struggling to maintain “feel” in the dark. The heavier blade gives great feedback on bottom and will keep you “connected” to your bait, despite not being able to see.

Here are the baits…

Bluegill Imitating Spinnerbaits…
Revenge Double Willow (Bluegill):
War Eagle Gold (Sun Perch or Watermelon):
Revenge Heavy Duty (Bluegill):

Favorite Chartreuse Spinnerbaits…
River2Sea Bling (Flow and I know It):
Revenge Deep Runner (White Chart with Double Nickel or Chart/White blades):
War Eagle Gold Spinnerbait (White/Lime/Chart):

Favorite White/Silver Spinnerbaits…
River2Sea Bling (Abalone Shad, Powder):
Revenge Deep Runner (Blue Shad, Shad, White):
War Eagle Screamin’ Eagle (Aurora, Green Shad, Mouse):

Favorite Gold Spinnerbaits…
Revenge Deep Runner (Golden Shiner):
War Eagle Gold (Golden Shiner):

Night Spinnerbaits…
Revenge Heavy Duty Double Willow (White Chart/Bluegill):
Revenge Double Colorado (Black Widow, White, White/Chart):

Spare Blades…
Revenge Replacement blades:
Recommend stocking sizes 4, 4.5, and 5 in Nickel, Gold, and White. Keep in mind size 5 is the largest so if you do not typically imitate bluegill or fish in extremely stained water, this will be your least used size.

Spinnerbait Accessories…
Keitech Fat Swing Impact:
3/8 ounce spinnerbaits use 3.8 size, 1/2 ounce use 4.3, and 3/4 ounce or larger use 4.8

Traditional Zoom Split Tail Trailer:
Salad Spoon:
Trailer Hook (3/0 Size):

Budget Combo for spinnerbaits…
Rod- Fury 7′ Medium Heavy:
Reel- Shimano Casitas:
Line- 65 lb Sufix 832 Braid:

High-End Combo for Spinnerbaits…
Rod- GLX 843:
Reel- Chronarch MGL:
Line- 65 lb Sufix 832:
Leader- 15 lb Maxima Ultragreen:
