I wrote this book for three reasons: I love history, I love fishing
and I love Table Rock Lake. For several years, I’ve heard stories
about the area and lake; what fishing was like before the lake, what
the lake and fishing was like in the early years, what’s buried
beneath Table Rock’s waters and how the project was built.
As I began to research information for this work, I was repeatedly
told that many of those who knew the stories weren’t around
any more. I realized that it was important to document some of this
information before it was lost.
I have tried to make this book entertaining, interesting and factual.
My research combined scientific studies, literature review,
personal interviews and my own experience. I am indebted to those
who supplied information, especially the Missouri Department of
Conservation employees who did the bulk of the scientific studies
on Table Rock and its fisheries. I also want to thank all those who
agreed to share their personal stories in interviews.
Many others including my wife and family, fellow anglers,
those who supplied photos, librarians, my printer and manuscript
reviewers were helpful and patient in supporting my attempt.
I hope you enjoy this book. I hope it gives a clear picture of the
history of this wonderful resource, Table Rock Lake. I also hope
you can use it as a reference for specific facts about the lake.
Keep the water clean.
