Annenberg Research Seminar – Dr. R. Lance Holbert, Ohio State University

Nov. 22, 2010: Annenberg Research Seminar – Dr. R. Lance Holbert, Ohio State University

Join students and faculty for a presentation by Dr. R. Lance Holbert, associate professor and director of graduate studies in the school of communication at Ohio State University. His topic: “Exploring the complexities of the political media diet: A focus on the complementary associations formed between seemingly disparate outlets.” From Dr. Holbert: “Citizens consume a variety of media outlets (news- and entertainment-oriented) that address a broad range of political issues from distinct vantage points. These outlets can vary in ideological orientation, journalistic underpinnings (e.g., trustee vs. advocacy models), the use of implicit versus explicit political statements, and the goals driving message creation (e.g., satirist vs. journalist). The talk will synthesize a series of studies that explore the complementary associations formed by citizens between such diverse political media outlets as ‘The Daily Show,’ MSNBC, and FOX News.”
