Best Baits for Fishing the Spawn!

Fishing the spawn!!!! Bass spawn when the water temp hits 60-65 F for the first time. (Not air temp. Water temp!). Bass will come in shallow to create their nests and spawn. Bass don’t hit lures to eat them, but rather to protect their nests. So use things like shakey heads, crankbaits, football jigs, etc. The key is to have a lure that intrudes on the nest. Hopping and crawling a jig on the bottom is a perfect way to do this. Using a swim jig for example is not because it’s not that threatening to a spawning bass.

  1. Fake news. I use swim jigs and swimbaits during the spawn all the time. Anything that mimics a bluegill will get destroyed in a bed. Bluegill eat there eggs n bass don’t like that

  2. True. Thanks for your opinion. I should’ve been more clear. But I was just trying to make the point that you want to use a lure that’s threatening @ryan_of_all_trades
