Spinnerbaits are one of my favorite baits for cold water bass around cover. With a slow retrieve, often referred to as “slow rolling” you can expect some big bites in late winter and early spring. The spinnerbait comes through wood and grass much better than a lot of other baits and excels in windy and overcast conditions.
I like a medium action rod for spinnerbaits under a 1/2 oz and use a 6:2:1 gear ratio reel to help slow my retrieve down. I also like to snap or jerk the bait by key pieces of cover to attract more strikes. I’ve caught some of my biggest bass using this technique and I hope it will help you too catch some big ones too!
